Water Tank Inlet, Outlet, Over Flow, Drain Flange : Overview
In water tank design, a “flange” is an opening prepared for connecting pipes or valves, providing a safe and leak-proof connection point for pipes and valves. For GRP/FRP water tanks, when we deliver them, they are separated from the plates. Customers can drill holes on the water tank plates to install flanges during on-site installation, and the position can be adjusted according to the site. For steel water tanks, since welding tools are needed, we usually prefabricate and weld them onto plates in the factory.

Each connection point has a specific role in tank operation and management,
For the size of flange, we can send clients with normal most use size, also can provide with clients request diameters, at top cover of water tank, we also provide air vent (short straight pipe+ weld steel elbow), even customer not mark it on the request list or PO, we will send full set of this connection point.
1-Inlet Flange (Water Inlet Connection)
Function : Allows raw or treated water to enter the tank from the supply source (e.g., pump, treatment system, municipal line).
Position: Always at top position of side panels.
2-Outlet Flange (Water Outlet Connection)
Function : Delivers stored water from the tank to the distribution system (e.g., pumps, pipelines, buildings).
Position: Always at bottom position of side panels.
3-Overflow Flange (Overflow Connection)
Function : Provides a safe, directed path for excess water to escape if the tank fills beyond its capacity.
Position: Always at top position of side panels.
4-Drain Flange (Bottom Drain Connection)
Function : Allows for the complete draining of the tank for inspection, maintenance, cleaning, or emergency repair.
Position: Always at bottom position of bottom panels.
What is Air Vent for Water Tanks?
The air vent is always installed at top cover of the water tank, It is a crucial component designed to allow air to enter or escape from a water storage tank during the processes of filling (inlet) and emptying (outlet). Its primary function is to maintain balanced pressure inside the tank, ensuring smooth and efficient operation of the water system.
When water enters a tank, it displaces the air inside. If this air has no way to escape, it creates positive pressure, which can slow down or even stop the inflow of water, cause noise, or potentially damage the tank. Conversely, when water is drawn out, a vacuum (negative pressure) can form. Without an air vent, this negative pressure can lead to tank collapse, structural damage, or back-siphonage of contaminated air.

GRP Panel Water Tanks:
– For GRP water tank, the flange was send separate with the GRP panel, and need to drill hole at site, the position can be make as our company drawing design, also can adjust the position at site.
Steel Panel Water Tanks:
-For pressed steel water tank, the flange was welded to panel at factory, just connect the panel at right position
at site.
